The bright and beautiful work of Clare Knox Bentham

At Hobbytec, we’re a little bit in love with the colourful work of Clare Knox Bentham. A Manchester-based artist and designer, Clare specialises in creating unique jewellery and large-scale artwork from thermoplastic adhesives.

A graduate of Manchester Metropolitan University, Clare says that her interest lies in the idea of turning drawings into three dimensional objects. To achieve this, she uses thermoplastic adhesives extruded through an applicator, which she then uses to ‘draw’ her illustrative designs freehand.

The designs are ‘drawn’ onto a silicone sheet and peeled off once they’re dry, at which point Clare sprays them with lacquer to preserve them. According to Clare this process is exclusive to her and creates exclusive, one-off pieces.

Clare’s inspiring range of work includes incredibly detailed wall hangings, smaller-scale pieces and framed artwork, and distinctive jewellery. Comprising a selection of necklaces and rings, Clare’s jewellery has been described by the National Centre for Craft and Design as ‘resembling a series of drawings for the body’.

Clare is available for commissions and has exhibited her work at a number of exhibitions around the country. She currently completes her designs using tec glue guns and tecbond 232, which are available to purchase from Hobbytec.
